Meet our 2021 Youth of the Year
KAtelyn Merritt

Katelyn is a rising sophomore at Jackson County Comprehensive High School. She has been a member of the Commerce Boys & Girls Club for 10 years along with her younger brother. Katelyn is a leader in the face of adversity and girl with whose hopes and dreams lead her into a bright future. Her leadership skills have excelled and shown up in and out of the Club through leading Black Lives Matter protests, playing JV basketball, running Track and being the manager of the Club store. 

She is a Club advocate for making sure her fellow Club members' are living healthy lifestyles and encouraging hope especially for young girls. She cares for her Club as her own family. Katelyn follows one simple guidline, "That greatness is only measured by how you make others great". To know Katelyn, is to love her. With a confidence and boldness that speaks volumes in any room, Katelyn is our 2021 Youth of the Year.

For 17 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson County has been at the forefront of youth development in Jackson County, Georgia. We have served thousands of young people over the years who might come from socially or economically disadvantages circumstances. BGCJC actively seeks to enrich the lives of boys and girls through providing quality programs and other resources that lead to new experiences and greater outcomes for their future. 

The BGCJC Youth development strategy focuses on:

  1. Putting Kids First
  2. Keeping Kids Safe
  3. Helping Kids Lead

​Boys & Girls Club programs help to foster a sense of belonging, safety & security,  knowledge and influence that builds self-confidence and self-esteem.

Our programs are based in four core program areas:

  • Sports, Health and Life Skills
  • The Arts
